Any organization’s foundation is its culture and organisational structure. The rules and policies that are defined by the structures help to shape the organisational culture. A very open, inventive, and creative structure and culture are essential for success since they allow for easy employee adjustment and enjoyment in the workplace. The relationship and comparison between the structure and culture will be covered in this assignment on organisational structure and culture. The various leadership and management philosophies will be discussed along with the culture.

Task 1

1.1 Compare and contrast the structure and culture of the organization.

The terms “organisational structure” refer to the standards, guidelines, and directives created by the business to accomplish its goals. The values, actions, and attitudes of the personnel are part of the organisational culture. For the organisation to be successful, both of these are equally critical. Depending on its size, scope, and other factors, every organisation has a unique culture and set of organisational structures.

1.2 Relationship between an organisation’s structure and culture

Culture and organisational structure are intertwined. An organisational structure establishes the mindset, rules, framework, tactics, and moral principles that ultimately shape the workplace culture.

For instance, if a business has a rigid structure and the power to make decisions is set or given to the top management, there won’t be any employee involvement or independence, and the culture would be less successful. However, if the organisational structure is decentralised, meaning that employees at all levels share in authority, responsibility, and decision-making, the culture will be more creative, exciting, accountable, and autonomous.

The distribution of power and responsibility inside an organisation shapes how its personnel behave. The organisational culture is determined by these structural choices. A firm handles its operations and power hierarchy through its organisational structure. Within the company, it outlines the roles, channels of communication, levels of authority, and other guidelines. Most organisational structures take the shape of a pyramid, with the president or CEO at the apex representing top management.

The pyramid displays the various management levels, which can vary from firm to company depending on the goals of various organisations. The highest level of management has the most sway. It regulates how every organisation is run.

1.3  Discuss the factors which influence the behavior of an individual at work focusing of personality, traits and   its usefulness in understanding self and others

Personality: This term refers to the assortment of characteristics that make up a person’s personality or character. It also establishes how people behave. When hiring someone, the management must research the candidate’s personality attributes and physical characteristics. Due to the fact that someone with a positive personality can be a benefit while someone with a negative or unfavourable personality might be a burden for the business (Prevedouros, 1990).

Every person has a unique personality, which causes him to react to situations differently than other people. A person’s behaviour is influenced by their personality. We’ll talk about the OCEAN model of personality traits, popularly known as the Big Five Personality Test, in this task.

2.1 Compare leadership styles in different organizations.

Leaders are those who has the capacity to affect other people’s behaviour. A manager needs to be a leader in order to handle various situations, inspire staff, oversee daily operations, keep an eye on performance, and mentor staff. The organisation uses a variety of distinct leadership philosophies. The leader’s personality and how he manages the organisation are reflected in his leadership style. I used Mr. Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, as an example in my query. A calm, patient, steady, and serene CEO oversees Microsoft. Participative/collaborative leadership is how Satya Nadella leads (KAY, 2015).

2.2 Explain how organizational theory underpins the practice of management.

Many facets of a functioning firm use management and organisational theory. Many people adopt the philosophy in an effort to excel in their careers or live longer, happier lives. When applied in practise, organisational theory has a big impact on how well an organisation performs overall. It investigates how different organisations interact with the environment in which they operate. Although organisational structure, culture, leadership styles, management approaches, and motivational theories have been developed for a very long time, they are constantly changing to assist managers in comprehending the business environment and carrying out business activities to meet organisational goals.


Organizational behaviour gives insight into how a company is operating. It encompasses the organisational structure and culture, two factors that affect the company’s future. Any organization’s success is greatly influenced by its culture, which has an impact on whether or not personnel stay. Employees will stay with a company if the culture is progressive and motivating, the leader is cooperative and supportive, and everyone works together to achieve the shared objectives necessary for the organization’s success. The corporation Microsoft was used as an example to explain all the critical elements of an organisation, including culture, structure, leadership style, management techniques, etc.
